Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer
Daniel Hommes, M.D., Ph.D., joined UT Southwestern Medical Center in May 2025 as Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer. In his role, Dr. Hommes leads the institution’s efforts to integrate innovation into every facet of its operations, from patient care and clinical services to education and research. He also oversees development of an Innovation Hub at UT Southwestern, designed to connect our culture of discovery with strategic partners and new market opportunities within the biomedical industry.
Prior to joining UT Southwestern, Dr. Hommes spent several years as an entrepreneur and health care executive, serving as Chief Medical Officer for InterVenn Biosciences in south San Francisco, which develops glycoproteomic-based diagnostics, and founder and CEO of DEARhealth Inc., developer of care pathway software and apps, where he remains a board member.
A gastroenterologist focusing on GI-Oncology, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and liver transplantation, Dr. Hommes previously was Professor of Medicine at UCLA, and Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and in Health Innovation and Applied AI at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he served as Chair. He was also President of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization and Director of the Research Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the University of Amsterdam.
Dr. Hommes received his medical education at the University of Amsterdam.
